Junior Designer

Who is VB+P? An independent advertising agency located in San Francisco who prides itself on being founded on two simple principles: Do right by our clients and do right by our people. This role is one of the first and key hires of a growing team. We are looking for a Junior Designer, passionate about creativity and culture. Someone who is conceptual and has a keen eye for craft. Our Junior Designers assist in executing the design direction on projects across the agency.

The role

A Brief Overview of the Role: Creative Sponge

  • Demonstrate the willingness to actively learn all aspects of the design craft.
  • Help carry out design direction
  • Assist in executing the creative concept when working with Senior Designer/Art Directors on projects
  • Image searching and comping based on concept/art or design direction
  • Provide assistance to Creative Directors & Art Directors on design, typography, and layout
  • Help build design library to use as reference resource for new projects
  • Provide help in preparing materials and/or mounting boards if needed for creative pitches or presentation of work
  • Work closely with project managers to schedule and monitor all projects

New Business and Internal Initiatives

  • Concept design deck templates for new business / RFI & RFP submissions
  • Help in final deck clean-up of presentation deck
  • Concept Design for Internal Comms (e.g. VB+P Newsletters, Agency Invites, Town Hall
  • Presentations, Event Asset design, etc.)
  • Concept Design for all VB+P Marketing Channels (e.g. VB+P Social Posts, Website, PR, etc.)
  • Good eye for detail and ability to digest and communicate information in a visually compelling way


  • Prioritizes and helps to ensure interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork.
  • Prioritizes and helps to ensure a contribution to overall team morale.

Industry Expertise

  • Follow industry news, stay on top of emerging technologies and trends.


  • Participate in VB+P mentorship program to learn the intricacies of the agency and industry.
  • Plays an active role in boosting team morale in the department and agency.

  • Actively works to contribute to our agency and department DEI initiatives and KPIs.

Below are some of the qualifications we’re interested in. If you don’t meet all of them, don’t count yourself out.

  • 1-2 years’ experience working in and Agency Environment
  • Proficient in Adobe Programs (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Solid communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Knowledge of the advertising new business Process
  • Degree in Graphic Design

Within 1 month you will:

  • Meet with People & Experience Team and Head of Workflow and Resourcing to get acquainted with over all agency processes (Benefits, Finance, IT, DEI, Resourcing)
  • Be introduced to the New Business Team- learning their workflow and process.
  • Meet with Design group- going over process and past examples of work.
  • Meet with Project Managers to go over their process and how you will work with them.
  • Have Welcome chats with Leadership
  • Start to get acquainted with other creatives through projects.
  • Be brought on to assist in Design and New Business as needed

Within 3 months you will:

  • Continue to get introduced to creatives and workflows through more project involvement
  • Work with P&E or New Business Team to Design for Internal Initiative
  • Begin Concepting and Clean-up of New Business Decks
  • Support on design related project
  • Have developed a mentor relationship with SR Designer or Creative

Within 6 months you will:

  • Have a solid understanding of the design process
  • Have a solid understanding of your design role in the New Business Process
  • Have concepted and executed multiple Internal Initiative Projects
  • Continued to support on larger design projects- collaborating with your SR Designer/Creative

Within 12 months you will:

  • Be comfortable and confident in concepting and designing New Business or Internal Initiative projects
  • Have had the opportunities to fully integrated into the agency- participating in different initiatives, projects and events as desired.
  • Have had review related conversations within the Lattice Review cycle with manager.
